Estonia is the first country in the world where it was possible to set up a company fully electronically. Such a system appeared in the 2000s. Since 2015, Estonia has been actively promoting this opportunity globally, naming the programme e-Residency, and the electronic card, which gives the right of electronic signature, the e-Residency card.

This card was based on the Estonian Id card, which locals used to sign any document for communication with state and commercial entities.

For example, Estonian residents can file tax returns completely electronically, set up companies, enter into contracts with Estonian banks and companies, use the e-public service portal, etc.
